    Professional Nurse Job Description

    The Professional Nurse at Anova Health Institute will play a critical role in managing and providing healthcare services at the facility level. This includes ensuring adherence to treatment protocols, monitoring performance indicators, and improving quality of care in line with the Department of Health (DoH) HIV Management guidelines and Anova’s specific work plans.

    Key Duties and Responsibilities

    • Collaboration with Outreach Teams: Work closely with outreach teams to identify and refer eligible HIV-infected clients for ART initiation, including Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP).
    • Patient Care: Provide comprehensive follow-up care for patients on treatment, ensuring that care aligns with the DoH HIV Management guidelines, Anova’s work plan, and the 90-90-90 strategy to end HIV/AIDS.
    • Performance Monitoring: Routinely monitor performance and registers for TB/HIV/STI programs at the facility level. Provide mentorship and technical support to enhance program outcomes.
    • Quality Improvement (QI): Identify areas with poor performance indicators. Develop and implement quality improvement plans in collaboration with the healthcare team.
    • Training and Mentorship: Identify training needs at the facility level. Organize and conduct in-service training sessions as needed. Train clinic staff on Men who have Sex with Men (MSM) diversity, biomedical training, and provide ongoing mentorship.
    • Data Reporting and Monitoring: Use Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) tools to report weekly to the Anova sub-district team on the number of clients initiated on ART.
    • Support Group Facilitation: Support facilities in implementing I-ACT support groups and Chronic Treatment Clubs according to Anova’s work plan, enhancing patient adherence and retention in care.

    Requirements

    • Educational Background: Matric/Grade 12 with a degree or diploma qualification as a Professional Nurse.
    • Professional Registration: Registration as a Professional Nurse with the South African Nursing Council (SANC).
    • Training and Certification: NIMART (Nurse-Initiated Management of Antiretroviral Therapy) trained and certified to work independently.
    • Experience: At least 4 years of experience working in a clinic setting, either in Primary Healthcare (PHC) or Community Healthcare (CHC) facilities.

    Skills, Competencies, and Attributes

    • Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office (intermediate level).
    • Communication: Strong report writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational abilities, including time management and multi-tasking skills.
